Trump Urged to Intervene as Calls Grow for Nnamdi Kanu’s Release

Trump and Nnamdi Kanu

Prince Kingsley Kanunta Kanu, brother of detained separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu, has called on U.S. President Donald Trump to intervene in his brother’s case and advocate for his release from detention in Nigeria.

In a strongly worded appeal shared publicly, Kanunta Kanu described Trump as a divinely positioned leader, urging him to take decisive action. He claimed that the release of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader would mark a significant step toward what he described as the restoration of Biafra.

Kanu, who has been in custody of Nigerian authorities, is facing charges related to his separatist activities and leadership of IPOB. His detention has remained a subject of controversy both locally and internationally, with supporters consistently calling for his release.

Kanunta Kanu further argued that an independent Biafra would become a strategic ally to the United States and Israel in sub-Saharan Africa. He also framed his appeal in religious terms, suggesting that Trump’s intervention would fulfill a higher purpose.

The call adds to ongoing tensions surrounding the agitation for Biafra, a secessionist movement seeking independence from Nigeria. The Nigerian government has repeatedly maintained its stance against any form of secession and continues to prosecute cases linked to separatist activities.
