The Chief Press Secretary to the Abia State Governor, Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, has called on residents of the state to support Governor Alex Otti for a second term in office, saying his administration has recorded significant progress since assuming office in May 2023.
Ukoha made the appeal in a statement issued on Saturday, September 19, 2026, titled “Ndi Abia, The World Is Now Sleeping in Our State – Let Us Reward a Good Job With More Jobs.”
According to the governor’s spokesman, the administration inherited challenges including unpaid salaries and pensions, abandoned infrastructure and poor environmental conditions, but has since embarked on what he described as the “improvement, transformation and renewal” of Abia.
He highlighted road construction as one of the major areas of intervention, listing projects across Aba, Umuahia, Ohafia, Arochukwu, Isuikwuato, Ukwa, Ikwuano, Bende and other parts of the state.
The Abia Government said in May 2026 that 414 road projects covering more than 800 kilometres had been completed, while another 82 roads spanning over 200 kilometres were nearing completion.
Ukoha also cited the payment of salary and pension arrears, regular payment of workers’ salaries and pensions, youth empowerment programmes, public-sector infrastructure, healthcare and education reforms as evidence of the administration’s performance.
On education, he referenced the rehabilitation of public schools, the development of smart schools and the recruitment of teachers. The state government separately reported that 5,394 teachers had been recruited, with another 4,000 recruitment exercise ongoing in 2026.
The statement also focused heavily on the growing presence of international diplomatic representatives in Abia. Ukoha argued that visits by foreign diplomats and development partners demonstrated increased international interest in the state and its economic potential.
He described such engagements as a sign of growing confidence in Abia, particularly in areas such as infrastructure, technology, power, manufacturing, agriculture and investment.
Ukoha said the state still has significant development needs, including roads, schools, hospitals, jobs and markets, but argued that the administration should be allowed to continue its programmes.
In Igbo land we say: When a man does well, you give him more. The reward for a good job is more jobs,” he stated.
He subsequently appealed to Abians across the state and residents from different ethnic and professional backgrounds to unite behind Otti ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The statement urged voters to support what it described as the “New Abia” project and give Otti another four-year mandate.
The Abia Government has also previously highlighted its achievements in healthcare, education, infrastructure, workers’ welfare and economic development during the administration’s third anniversary in May 2026.
