Now They See Nigerians as Drug Dealers Abroad — Islamic Cleric Blasts Tinubu

An Islamic cleric has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over what he described as the negative image Nigeria is increasingly associated with abroad.

In a video circulating on social media, the cleric expressed frustration over the perception Nigerians allegedly face when travelling to other countries, linking the situation to recent controversies surrounding Nigeria and drug-related allegations.

“Now as a Nigerian, you land anywhere around the world and they see you as a drug dealer. I have never seen cocaine, but now they think we all deal with cocaine in Nigeria because of our President,” he said.

The cleric also questioned the President’s decision to remain abroad on vacation while Nigeria faces several challenges.

“And they said he is on vacation. In the midst of all these chaos,” he added.

President Tinubu began a three-week annual leave on August 30, 2026, with London as his first destination before travelling to Paris. The Presidency described the trip as a “working vacation.”

Tinubu was also received by French President Emmanuel Macron for a private dinner in Paris on Thursday, September 17, during his stay in France.
