The President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Afam Osigwe (SAN), has called on Nigerian lawyers to align with global best practices in response to the rapidly evolving legal landscape.

Osigwe, who was represented by the NBA 1st Vice President, Sabastine Anya, made the call at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Conference of the NBA Section on Legal Practice (NBA-SLP), themed “Evolving Trends: Nigerian Legal Practice, Global Perspective.”

Delivering the President’s goodwill message, Anya conveyed Osigwe’s greetings to participants and commended the NBA-SLP for its sustained commitment to professional development and excellence in legal service delivery.

The NBA President noted that the conference theme reflects the ongoing transformation in the legal profession, driven by technological advancements, cross-border transactions, emerging areas of practice, and shifting regulatory frameworks.

He stressed the need for Nigerian lawyers to acquire the necessary skills to remain competitive in the global legal ecosystem, while upholding core values such as integrity, competence, innovation, and service.

Osigwe expressed optimism that the conference would provide practical insights, foster strategic partnerships, and inspire innovative approaches to legal practice in Nigeria.

A major highlight of the event was the launch of the NBA-SLP Law Firm Directory, an initiative designed to enhance visibility, collaboration, and networking opportunities among law firms.

The Nigerian Bar Association also congratulated the NBA Section on Legal Practice for organizing a successful conference, expressing confidence that participants would benefit from impactful deliberations and outcomes.
