Controversy has erupted in Rivers State after a man raised alarm over the presence of a campaign-style billboard linked to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inside an office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), a body constitutionally mandated to remain neutral in Nigeria’s electoral process.
In a viral video circulating online, the visibly distressed man questioned the impartiality of the electoral commission after spotting the “Renewed Hope” billboard — a slogan strongly associated with Tinubu’s political campaign — displayed within the premises of the INEC office.
“Inside INEC office in Rivers State and I’m seeing Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope’ billboard inside INEC,” the man said, expressing disbelief over what he described as a breach of expected neutrality.
The development has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians expressing concern that such a display, if verified, could undermine public trust in the electoral body. Critics argue that INEC, as an independent institution, must not be seen promoting or aligning with any political figure or party.
