Edun, Dangiwa Resign from Tinubu’s Cabinet, Presidency Clarifies

Edun, Dangiwa

The Presidency has clarified that former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, voluntarily resigned from their positions, contrary to reports suggesting they were sacked.

According to a State House press release issued on Wednesday, Edun stepped down citing health reasons, formally submitting his resignation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu before the announcement of his replacement.

Edun, who recently turned 70, expressed gratitude to the President for the opportunity to serve, describing his time in office as a “pleasure and privilege.” In his resignation letter, he commended the administration’s achievements, stating that Nigeria has become “stronger, more resilient and more internationally respected” under Tinubu’s leadership.

Before his exit was made public, Edun reportedly paid a valedictory visit to the President at the Presidential Villa, where both men held a closed-door meeting lasting about an hour.

Similarly, Dangiwa tendered his resignation and thanked the President for the opportunity to serve in the Federal Executive Council. The architect, who previously served as Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank, had been appointed minister in August 2023.

President Tinubu, in the statement signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, expressed appreciation to both former ministers for their contributions to the administration’s economic reform agenda and wished them success in their future endeavours.

Meanwhile, the President has directed the new Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, to build on ongoing reforms and drive the administration’s fiscal policies with renewed commitment.

Tinubu is also expected to forward the nomination of Muttaqha Rabe Darma as the new Minister of Housing to the Senate for confirmation.
