Master Strategist in What? — Deji Adeyanju Criticises Tinubu Over Fuel Hike

Deji Adeyanju and Tinubu

Human rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, has criticised the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the rising cost of fuel, warning that the current economic realities are placing severe strain on Nigerians.

In a statement that has sparked debate across social and political circles, Adeyanju questioned the continued portrayal of President Tinubu as a “master strategist,” arguing that soaring petrol prices tell a different story.

“Fuel is almost ₦2,000 and people are still calling Tinubu the master strategist. Master strategist in what?” he said.

The activist called on the federal government to urgently reconsider its stance on fuel subsidy removal, insisting that reinstating the subsidy would provide immediate relief to citizens and stabilize the economy.

According to him, petrol remains central to daily life and economic activity in Nigeria, with transportation, food prices, and small businesses heavily dependent on fuel costs.

“The government should bring back fuel subsidy because the economy is suffering. If he brings back fuel subsidy today, fuel will come down, and majority of what we do in Nigeria is tied to petrol,” Adeyanju added.

His remarks come amid growing public concern over the rising cost of living since the removal of fuel subsidies, a policy introduced by the Tinubu administration as part of broader economic reforms aimed at reducing government spending and encouraging market-driven pricing.
