The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has reportedly announced the dissolution of the movement’s Directorate of State (DOS) and the inauguration of a new leadership structure.
In a statement dated June 17, 2026, and issued from Langerfeld, Germany, Kanu said he has ended the “3rd Administration” of the DOS and established what he described as the “4th Administration” of the body.
According to the statement, the restructuring also includes the appointment of a new Head of the Directorate of State, identified as U.S.-based Chris Nwaogu, who is expected to oversee the coordination and daily administration of IPOB affairs under the movement’s leadership.
The statement further listed a wide range of new appointments across various regional and functional roles, including media, finance, welfare, and continental coordinators. It also announced the creation of an “Elders Advisory Council,” which is expected to serve in a consultative capacity within the organization’s hierarchy.
Kanu, who described the move as part of “organizational renewal,” stated that the decision followed concerns over internal cohesion, communication challenges, and the welfare of detained members of the group.
He further directed all structures of the organization worldwide to align with the new leadership arrangement and recognize the reconstituted DOS.
