The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC )has arraigned a suspected impersonator, Salifu Olije Mustapha, before the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Kubwa, Abuja, over alleged impersonation and fraud.
Mustapha was arraigned on Tuesday before Justice A.I. Akobi on a four-count charge bordering on impersonation, misrepresentation, and alleged involvement in defrauding unsuspecting members of the public while posing as an operative of the anti-graft agency.
According to the EFCC, the suspect allegedly pretended to be both an officer of the Commission and a personnel of the Nigerian Air Force in a bid to aid fraudulent activities carried out alongside two other suspects identified as Abubakar, who is currently at large, and Haruna Mamuda, who is reportedly under investigation by another law enforcement agency.
The Commission told the court that the suspects allegedly dressed in fake EFCC operational uniforms and used a Toyota Corolla with registration number KTU399GT to harass and defraud motorists and other unsuspecting victims around Sheriff Plaza, Wuse II, Abuja.
One of the charges stated that Mustapha aided the suspects by conveying them while they were fully dressed in EFCC uniforms to locations where they allegedly carried out fraudulent activities.
Another charge accused him of impersonating a public servant by falsely presenting himself as a Nigerian Air Force officer and using the assumed identity to defraud members of the public.
The defendant pleaded guilty to all four charges when they were read before the court.
Following his guilty plea, prosecution counsel R.U. Adaga urged the court to convict and sentence him accordingly.
Justice Akobi subsequently adjourned the matter until June 1, 2026, for sentencing.
The EFCC said Mustapha was arrested after receiving actionable intelligence linking him to the impersonation of EFCC personnel and related fraudulent activities in Abuja.
