Former President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday inaugurated 18 newly completed road projects constructed by the Bauchi State Government at a total cost of N58.7 billion.
The roads, located across Bauchi metropolis, were commissioned during Jonathan’s visit to the state ahead of the 2026 Democracy Dialogue.
Speaking at the ceremony, Jonathan commended Governor Bala Mohammed for what he described as a deliberate commitment to infrastructure development and economic transformation.
He said road infrastructure remained one of the strongest drivers of economic growth, social inclusion and commercial expansion, noting that the newly completed roads would improve connectivity within the state capital and ease access to essential services.
“No society can achieve sustainable progress without investing in modern infrastructure. Roads are not merely transport routes; they are channels through which trade, investment and development flow,” Jonathan said.
The former president recalled his previous visits to Bauchi, including one to inaugurate a road project and another to participate in an economic summit, saying the latest projects demonstrated continuity in the state’s development efforts.
Jonathan also said the confidence residents had placed in Governor Mohammed had been rewarded with visible achievements across key sectors, including education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure and human capital development.
Speaking at the event, Governor Mohammed disclosed that his administration had completed nearly 3,000 kilometres of roads across Bauchi State since assuming office.
He said the figure represented significant progress towards the administration’s target of constructing 5,000 kilometres of roads across the state to boost economic activities, strengthen security and improve residents’ quality of life.
“Our target was to construct 5,000 kilometres of roads across Bauchi State. We have already delivered close to 3,000 kilometres, and the work continues,” Mohammed said.
The governor thanked residents for their patience and understanding during the construction period, acknowledging that several communities were still awaiting road projects.
“We cannot meet every demand immediately because resources are limited, but we remain committed to extending development to every part of the state,” he added.
