The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has outlined his vision for a productive and prosperous Nigeria, promising sweeping reforms in education, healthcare and human capital development if elected president.
In a statement released on July 1, 2026, Peter Obi recalled his decision to seek Nigeria’s highest office, saying his mission is to place the country on the path of unity, national transformation and sustainable development.
According to Peter Obi, he will, in the coming weeks and months, unveil a comprehensive roadmap aimed at tackling government inefficiency, improving the quality of life of Nigerians and promoting unity, peace, sustained progress and prosperity.
Peter Obi said his proposed agenda is anchored on unity, inclusion, social justice, equity and the freedom of every Nigerian to pursue legitimate aspirations.
He identified education and healthcare as the foundation of his development plan, describing human capital as the most critical infrastructure required for national growth and economic expansion.
Peter Obi pledged to establish a task force from the outset of his administration to drastically reduce the number of out-of-school children across the country.
He also promised to prioritise Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), saying it would drive industrialisation through agriculture, value addition and the establishment of industrial parks across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.
Peter Obi said his administration would strengthen TVET institutions through partnerships involving government, the private sector and faith-based educational organisations, while promoting apprenticeship programmes modelled after Germany’s dual education system.
He argued that Nigeria must address the paradox of high unemployment alongside the shortage of skilled labour, which has forced many Nigerian entrepreneurs to establish businesses abroad.
According to Peter Obi, transitioning Nigeria from a consumption-driven economy to a production-driven economy will require investment in skills development, enterprise and industrial growth.
He added that character and civic education, with emphasis on trust, leadership and shared national values, would also form a key pillar of his proposed governance framework.
Peter Obi concluded his message with his signature slogan: “A New Nigeria is Possible.”
