Minister of Works David Umahi has dismissed ADC presidential candidate, Peter Obi’s claim that his life is under threat, describing the allegation as baseless and insisting that no one wants to harm him.
Speaking on Friday while inspecting federal road projects in Ebonyi State, Umahi said Obi would remain safe to participate in the 2027 presidential election.
“Nobody wants Obi d+ad; it’s not just reasonable. We all want him alive to contest this election and watch himself lose again,” he said.
The minister was reacting to Obi’s recent claim that he had received threats over his criticism of the federal government, saying the remarks reflected political frustration rather than reality.
Umahi argued that Obi’s concerns were driven by his belief that the South-East remains his political stronghold following the 2023 election, which he described as an “accident of history.”
He maintained that President Bola Tinubu’s infrastructure projects and appointments in the South-East have changed the region’s political landscape, adding that many residents now support the administration’s development efforts instead of what he described as “Artificial Intelligence (AI) kind of politics.”
Umahi also reiterated his readiness to publicly debate Obi on the Tinubu administration’s performance, particularly its infrastructure projects and what he described as its inclusive approach to the South-East.
