Afrobeats superstar Davido has reflected on his historic performance at the FIFA World Cup closing ceremony, describing it as a landmark achievement for African music while defending the controversial jacket he wore during the event.
Speaking about the experience, the singer said he remains the first African artist to headline a FIFA World Cup closing ceremony, adding that his relationship with FIFA has continued to grow over the years.
“I’m the first African artist to shut down a FIFA World Cup closing ceremony. FIFA is like family; they called me back this year,” Davido said.
Addressing the criticism surrounding the jacket he wore during his appearance, the award-winning singer made it clear that he has no regrets.
“My jacket became controversial, but I’m not apologetic about it. It was the right thing to do. It brought awareness, and I’m proud of that,” he stated.
