MC EdoPikin has responded to the controversy surrounding the reported walkout by Seun Kuti at the wedding of Peller and Jarvis, denying claims that he insulted the late Afrobeat legend, Fela Kuti.
In a statement shared after the event, MC EdoPikin said his comments had been taken out of context, insisting he never disrespected Fela during his performance.
“I don’t know why we are always attracted to negativity and bad news,” he said.
According to the comedian, there were three MCs at the wedding and discussions during his session revolved around contemporary entertainment rivalries such as Wizkid and Davido, as well as football icons Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
He explained that he only referenced Fela while advising the DJ not to play music too loudly or behave like people who claim to be “bigger than Baba Fela.”
Addressing Seun Kuti directly, MC EdoPikin said:
Egbon Seun Kuti, we don’t know what you want. When someone calls out Baba Fela, it’s a problem; when someone praises Fela, it’s still a problem also.”
He further claimed that Seun Kuti reacted before hearing the full context of his remarks.
You didn’t calm down to listen; you just angrily walked away and missed the rice and pounded yam and all the sweet food served at the wedding. Next time, calm down and listen deep.”
The exchange follows reports that Seun Kuti left the wedding venue after allegedly believing the MC had made disrespectful comments about his late father. Neither Seun Kuti nor his representatives had publicly responded further to MC EdoPikin’s explanation at the time of this report.
