ASUU Declares Two-Week Warning Strike Over Unresolved Agreement Issues

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Federal University of Agriculture Zuru (FUAZ) Branch, has commenced a two-week warning strike following the expiration of a 21-day ultimatum issued to the university’s Governing Council over unresolved issues linked to the 2025 Federal Government–ASUU agreement.

The union’s decision was announced in a statement signed on Tuesday by its Branch Chairperson, Comrade Danbauchi Ishaq Sanchi.

ASUU said the Governing Council failed to provide a positive response or take concrete steps towards addressing the concerns raised during the 21-day ultimatum.

Following an emergency meeting held on Tuesday, the union resolved to withdraw academic services from the university beginning midnight on August 18.

The industrial action is expected to affect virtually all academic activities at FUAZ, including lectures, examinations, continuous assessments, project and thesis supervision, as well as meetings of the Senate and Faculty Boards.

The union said the strike was aimed at compelling the Governing Council to urgently address issues affecting the welfare of academic staff and the effective administration of academic programmes.

ASUU expressed regret over the disruption the action could cause students and other members of the university community, but maintained that the strike became necessary after its earlier efforts failed to produce the desired response.

Despite the commencement of the warning strike, the union said it remained willing to engage in dialogue, stressing that meaningful negotiations and concrete action by the relevant authorities could bring the dispute to an end.
