Mavin Records founder Michael Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, has revealed that Ayra Starr’s rise to global prominence has had a significant impact on his own life and career.
The music executive made the revelation while reacting to a post about the Grammy-nominated singer’s remarkable journey from an Instagram freestyle to becoming one of Nigeria’s leading Afrobeats stars.
According to Don Jazzy, discovering Ayra Starr online remains one of the moments he is most grateful for.
“She has most definitely changed my own life too. I bless the day I was shown her Instagram freestyle,” he wrote on X, describing the singer as a “dream Starrgirl.”
Don Jazzy had previously recounted how he discovered Ayra Starr in 2020 after coming across one of her freestyle videos on Instagram. At just 18 years old at the time, she caught his attention immediately.
“The minute I saw her, I was like, this is it,” he recalled during an interview on The Echo Podcast.
Rather than simply viewing the young singer as another addition to his record label, Don Jazzy saw the potential to build an international star capable of taking Nigerian music to a wider audience.
Since joining Mavin, Ayra Starr has gone on to achieve major milestones, recording global hits such as “Rush” and earning a Grammy nomination.
Her success has also strengthened Mavin Records’ international reputation, making her one of the label’s most recognisable artistes.
Don Jazzy’s latest reflection therefore highlights a different side of Ayra Starr’s success — not only how the music executive helped shape her career, but how the artiste’s growth has equally influenced the man who discovered her.
The post has since generated reactions from fans, with many celebrating the relationship between the Mavin boss and the artiste whose career has become one of the label’s biggest success stories.
