Troops of the 12 Field Engineering Regiment have rescued two kidnapping victims in Ogun State after engaging a group of armed criminals who attacked a community in Odogbolu Local Government Area.
The operation took place at about 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, following intelligence that seven armed men had attacked Araromi Community, near Ijebu-Ijesha.
The troops immediately mobilised to the area and launched a pursuit of the attackers. A confrontation reportedly followed, forcing the criminals to abandon their victims and flee into the surrounding area.
During the operation, the troops recovered an AK-47 rifle fitted with an empty magazine, as well as an empty case of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
One of the rescued victims sustained a gunshot injury during the incident and was subsequently evacuated to Babcock University Teaching Hospital, where the victim was taken for medical treatment.
Both rescued victims have been placed under appropriate care as security agencies continue efforts to locate the fleeing suspects.
The latest operation has also prompted continued security efforts around vulnerable communities in the area, as troops and other security personnel work to prevent further attacks and kidnapping incidents.
