Nollywood actor Ray Adeka has criticised Nigerian politicians and expressed frustration over what he described as public indifference to serious political and security-related issues in the country.
Adeka, in a strongly worded statement, described Nigerian politicians as “the luckiest set of b@stards on the planet,” arguing that many citizens fail to hold public officials accountable.
The actor questioned how politicians could receive praise for relatively small projects such as commissioning boreholes, while more serious allegations involving public officials allegedly receive limited public attention.
He also referenced the ongoing allegations linking a serving senator to banditry, questioning why the issue had not generated greater concern among Nigerians.
Adeka said the large population of Nigerians should ordinarily translate into stronger public scrutiny of political leaders, but expressed disappointment with what he perceives as a lack of critical engagement.
His comments come amid renewed controversy over allegations linking Senator Shehu Buba Umar to banditry and terrorism, allegations which the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria has called on relevant security agencies to independently investigate.
