Nigerian singer Timaya has responded to the controversy surrounding his viral on-stage moment with comedian and actress Real Warri Pikin, insisting that she did nothing wrong and that he has no reason to apologise.
Speaking during an Instagram Live session, Timaya urged people not to drag Real Warri Pikin over the incident, saying he was the one who carried her on stage and that he takes full responsibility for his actions.
Timaya also made a series of claims about his past relationship with the comedian, alleging that they were romantically involved before her marriage and that they had once discussed building a future together.
He claimed that Real Warri Pikin’s husband, Victor Ikechukwu, was aware of their alleged relationship and accused him of interfering in it.
According to Timaya, he had invested several years of his time and emotions into the relationship before Real Warri Pikin eventually married Ikechukwu.
The singer questioned why he should apologise for carrying Real Warri Pikin on stage, arguing that their past relationship made his actions understandable.
He also said the public does not know the full history between them and suggested that the viral incident should not be judged without considering their past.
Timaya further alleged that what happened on stage was a repeat of events from their past and said any marital problems arising from the incident should not be blamed on him.
The singer’s comments come after Real Warri Pikin publicly apologised to Nigerians over the viral moment, explaining that she had been backstage enjoying Timaya’s performance before joining him on stage and that she was reluctant when he asked her to participate.
Timaya, however, maintained that he owes no one an apology and stood by his decision to carry her during the performance.
The singer’s allegations about the nature of his past relationship with Real Warri Pikin have not been independently verified.
