Obasanjo Reveals What Changed His Perception of Charly Boy

Obasanjo, Charly Boy

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has revealed that his perception of Nigerian entertainer Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, changed significantly after witnessing the care he gave to his late father, Justice Chukwudifu Oputa.

Obasanjo made the revelation during an interview with media personality Isbae U, where he reflected on his earlier impression of the entertainer and explained why he once described Charly Boy as “Jaga Jaga.”

According to the former president, he initially had little respect for Charly Boy, despite his high regard for his father, the late Justice Oputa, whom he described as “a great man.”

Obasanjo said his opinion began to change when he visited Justice Oputa and discovered that the retired jurist was living in Charly Boy’s home and receiving care from his son.

He recalled being initially surprised by the unconventional appearance of the house, including a motorcycle parked outside, but said what he saw inside changed his perception.

Obasanjo said he was impressed by the attention Charly Boy gave his father and noted that the entertainer continued caring for him until his death.

“He really behaved like a good child would to his father,” Obasanjo said.

The former president added that Charly Boy also cared for his mother, whom he described as a humorous woman he frequently visited.

Obasanjo said these experiences made him reconsider his earlier judgment of the entertainer.

He also recalled asking Charly Boy about his unconventional public image and the various activities that earned him the “Jaga Jaga” description.

According to Obasanjo, Charly Boy explained that his unusual public persona was part of how he made a living.

The former president said the explanation further changed his view of the entertainer, whom he described as intelligent.

Obasanjo concluded that although he had developed some fondness for Charly Boy, his admiration remained measured.

“So now I like him a bit, not too much,” he said.
