Pupils of Okwue Primary School in Owa-Nta, Delta State, have been captured scooping water from their classroom after rainfall reportedly left the learning environment flooded.
A video circulating on social media shows the pupils, dressed in their school uniforms, using containers to evacuate water from the classroom as their teacher appealed for intervention.
The teacher, who spoke in the local language, was heard drawing attention to the condition of the school and calling on relevant authorities and concerned individuals to come to the aid of the pupils.
“Please, I am begging for the future of these future presidents. They should come to our aid,” the teacher said.
Observations from the video showed what appeared to be a damaged or open section of the classroom roof, while some windows appeared to be without shutters or coverings.
The classroom also appeared to have limited seating facilities, with pupils participating in the effort to clear the water instead of remaining focused on their lessons.
The children seen in the footage appeared to be between nine and 11 years old.
Akelicious gathered that Okwue Primary School is located in Owa-Nta, within Delta North Senatorial District, an area predominantly inhabited by Anioma-speaking communities.
The condition displayed in the video has renewed concerns about the state of basic infrastructure in some public schools and the learning conditions faced by pupils in affected communities.
The video has since generated reactions online, with calls for the relevant authorities to urgently assess the situation and provide the necessary infrastructure and learning facilities for the pupils.
