President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has challenged former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi’s call for increased Federal Government investment in sports.
Onanuga, in a post on X, questioned Obi’s position on sports funding, while referring to the former governor’s administration in Anambra State.
He alleged that sportsmen and women in the state were poorly treated during Obi’s eight-year tenure as governor, extending the criticism to athletes with physical disabilities.
“His poor sports record as governor is well documented in the archives,” Onanuga stated.
The presidential aide also questioned the consistency of Obi advocating increased federal investment in sports despite what he described as his administration’s treatment of athletes in Anambra.
“Today, he talks, very glibly, of course, about the need for the FG to invest in sport,” Onanuga wrote.
He also accused Obi of making what he described as reckless claims about Federal Government investment in the sports sector.
Onanuga’s comments followed Obi’s recent call for greater government attention and investment in sports, sparking a fresh exchange between supporters of the former Anambra governor and the Tinubu administration.
