The Adamawa State Police Command has launched a manhunt for four suspects allegedly linked to the death of a tea seller, Muhammad Auwal Idris, following a dispute over a N50 cup of tea in Yola.
The incident occurred at a popular ‘banga joint’ in Nassarawa Quarters, Yola North Local Government Area, where Idris was reportedly attending to customers when a member of a group ordered tea.
Trouble reportedly began after the tea was served and Idris requested payment. The disagreement allegedly escalated into a physical confrontation, during which the tea seller was severely beaten.
Police spokesman, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said the incident was reported at the Doubeli Divisional Headquarters on September 28, 2026, by Aliyu Idris, the deceased’s brother.
According to Nguroje, police operatives were dispatched to the scene and found the victim unconscious. He was taken to a health facility, where a medical doctor subsequently confirmed his death.
The police said preliminary investigations had identified four persons allegedly connected to the incident — Isa, Japhet, Omo and Henry — but the suspects had yet to be arrested.
Nguroje said efforts were underway to locate and apprehend the suspects as investigations continue.
The incident has sparked concern among residents, who are calling for the suspects to be brought to justice and for measures to prevent similar incidents in the community.
