Anambra Police Raise Alarm Over Motorcycle-Linked Robbery, Urge Riders to Stay Vigilant

The Anambra State Police Command has ordered intensified monitoring of motorcycle riders and stronger community collaboration following reports of robbery and other criminal activities allegedly involving motorcycles.

The Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday, October 3, 2026, by its spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.

According to the Police, recent incidents have raised concerns over the use of motorcycles to facilitate criminal operations across the state.

The Command cited the arrest of a motorcycle rider in Nnewi who was allegedly found with a pistol during a stop-and-search operation.

It also referenced a separate incident in Aguleri, where a motorcycle rider was reportedly attacked and robbed of his motorcycle and personal belongings. The victim was killed during the incident.

The Police said preliminary observations suggest that criminal elements may be exploiting motorcycles to move around and target unsuspecting residents and other motorcycle users.

In response, Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has directed Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to intensify engagement with motorcycle riders’ associations, community leaders, vigilante groups and other stakeholders.

The engagements are expected to improve intelligence gathering, motorcycle identification and documentation, as well as strengthen information sharing between communities and security agencies.

The Command also raised concerns over motorcycle owners who fail to properly register their motorcycles or maintain valid ownership documents, warning that such gaps could complicate efforts to trace stolen motorcycles or determine their rightful owners.

The Police urged motorcycle owners and riders to ensure their motorcycles are properly registered and that relevant ownership documents are kept safely and made available when required.

Residents were also advised to report suspicious motorcycle movements, individuals or activities to the nearest police station or through established emergency communication channels.

The Commissioner further appealed to community leaders and motorcycle riders’ associations to provide timely and credible information that could help security agencies identify and disrupt criminal activities.

The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and avoid confronting suspected criminals, stressing that suspicious activities should instead be reported promptly to the Police.
