Tinubu Tells APC Campaign Council to Handle 2027 Mobilisation as He Focuses on Governance

President Bola Tinubu has directed members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council to take responsibility for grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general election, saying he will not be able to attend every campaign event because of the demands of governance.

Tinubu made the position known on Wednesday in Abuja during the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, where he urged party leaders and members to spread the administration’s message across states, local government areas and wards nationwide.

The president said the need to address Nigeria’s economic challenges and meet the country’s financial obligations required his continued attention, stressing that campaign activities must not come at the expense of governance.

“You’ve warned me not to allow the rigour of the campaign to distract me from governance, I hear you. I am in full agreement with your decision. Nigeria needs more attention now,” he said.

Tinubu further explained that his responsibilities as president would limit his participation in campaign engagements across the country.

“So, you will excuse me from going everywhere with you, we have bills to pay. The American creditors cannot wait,” he added.

The president also emphasised the importance of attracting investors willing to establish long-term businesses in Nigeria, saying such investments would help secure a better future for the country’s younger generation.

“We want those investors to come in, be here to stay, to invest for the future of our children,” Tinubu said.

Despite his decision not to accompany the campaign council to every event, he assured Nigerians that he would continue to communicate directly with them while the party’s mobilisation team worked across the country.

Tinubu described the inauguration as a renewed commitment to Nigerians, urging council members to present the administration’s policies, achievements and future plans to voters.

“We have not gathered merely to inaugurate a council. We have gathered to renew a covenant. A covenant with Nigerian people and the historic responsibility they have entrusted to us as Nigeria’s governing party,” he said.

He expressed confidence in the council’s ability to deliver the party’s message to communities nationwide and secure electoral support in the 2027 elections.

The president also praised APC members for completing their party congresses, dismissing earlier expectations that the exercise could trigger a major internal crisis.

According to him, the party overcame the challenges and remained united throughout the process, from the ward level to the national leadership.

“They said there will be implosion. We passed through it. We did not fail. You didn’t let us down. We got here together,” Tinubu said.

His remarks place greater responsibility on APC leaders and campaign officials to drive the party’s nationwide mobilisation, while he maintains his focus on the economy, government operations and Nigeria’s international financial commitments ahead of the 2027 general election.
