Two women have reportedly been implicated in an alleged attempt to steal a newborn baby from a hospital after one of them allegedly faked a pregnancy by stuffing clothes under her outfit to create the appearance of a baby bump.
According to reports circulating on social media, the incident was uncovered after the women allegedly visited the hospital, with one of them claiming to be pregnant and the other presenting herself as her elder sister who had accompanied her for delivery.
However, their alleged plan was reportedly exposed before they could leave the hospital with the newborn.
The woman who allegedly pretended to be pregnant was apprehended at the facility, while her suspected accomplice reportedly fled the scene.
The police were subsequently contacted and took the arrested woman into custody following a confrontation with people at the hospital.
The incident gained attention after a video showing the suspect being confronted at the facility surfaced on social media.
In the footage, some people can be heard speaking Yoruba and repeatedly urging the woman to admit to the alleged offence.
Reports accompanying the video claim that the suspect had concealed clothes beneath her outfit to make it appear as though she was pregnant before visiting the hospital with her alleged accomplice.
As of the time of filing this report, the name and location of the hospital had not been disclosed, and further details regarding the incident remained unclear.
The police have yet to issue an official statement confirming the circumstances surrounding the alleged attempted abduction of the newborn or the status of the investigation.
