The Anambra State Police Command has recovered a Toyota Highlander allegedly stolen in Anambra and traced to Calabar, Cross River State, leading to the arrest of a suspect.
The vehicle, with registration number ENU 387 BB, was reportedly stolen on October 9, 2026, before police operatives attached to the Central Police Station (CPS), Onitsha, recovered it on October 16 following an intelligence-led operation.
The police identified the arrested suspect as Muonago Chibuze, who was apprehended during the operation in connection with the alleged theft.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the recovery followed intelligence gathering that enabled operatives to track the vehicle beyond Anambra State.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has directed that the recovered vehicle be transferred to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, for further investigation.
The investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the theft, determine the suspect’s alleged involvement and identify other individuals who may be connected to the incident.
The Command said the recovery demonstrated the importance of intelligence gathering and collaboration in tackling vehicle theft and other crimes that cross state boundaries.
It reaffirmed its commitment to recovering stolen property, investigating criminal activities and bringing suspects to justice in accordance with the law.
The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities or information about stolen vehicles to the nearest police station or through established police communication channels.
The statement was signed by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, Awka, on October 22, 2026.
