African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has dismissed suggestions that his application to use Aso Rock for the launch of his presidential campaign council is an attempt to join the Rainbow Coalition.
Sowore said his request was based on what he described as the need for equal access to public facilities for all political parties, insisting that the AAC was not part of any coalition with President Bola Tinubu.
The activist and politician made the remarks on Friday while speaking at an event organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
According to Sowore, his application to use Aso Rock was not an indication of political alignment with the president or any coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He argued that since the All Progressives Congress (APC) uses the facility for political events, other political parties should also be allowed to use it.
“We are not part of any coalition with the man in Aso Rock. We asked to use it because the APC uses it to do political events,” Sowore said.
He added that Aso Rock should be accessible to other political parties, arguing that it should not be treated as a facility reserved exclusively for the ruling party.
Sowore also rejected the idea of joining the Rainbow Coalition, expressing doubts about its longevity beyond the 2027 general elections.
“I don’t want to be part of any Rainbow Coalition because it’s going to die after 2027,” he said.
He maintained that the coalition’s future would not depend on where it was formed, mentioning Port Harcourt, Lagos and Osun State as possible locations.
