The Executive Managing Director of the Enugu State Waste Management Authority (ESWAMA), Hon. Richard Onaga, has declared support for Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s re-election bid, urging the people of Enugu State to support continuity in the state’s leadership ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Onaga’s endorsement is anchored on his confidence in the governor’s development agenda, particularly his administration’s efforts to improve environmental sanitation, infrastructure, education, healthcare and other critical sectors.
Making a case for Mbah’s second term, Onaga called on Ndi Enugu not to be swayed by opposition parties, arguing that the governor deserves another four years to consolidate the achievements of his administration and complete ongoing projects.
He maintained that the state had witnessed significant development under Mbah’s leadership since he assumed office in May 2023, pointing to the administration’s commitment to building a cleaner, more organised and economically vibrant Enugu.
A key area of the governor’s administration highlighted by Onaga is environmental sanitation, where ESWAMA plays a central role in maintaining cleanliness across the state.
Under Mbah, the state government has invested in modern waste management equipment, including 10 waste compactors, seven automated street sweepers and 200 modern dumpsters, to improve waste collection and keep urban centres clean.
The administration has also pursued environmental reforms through the Enugu State Environmental Protection Law and the state’s Climate Change Policy and Action Plan, aimed at strengthening environmental protection and sustainability.
Beyond environmental management, Mbah’s administration has undertaken major infrastructure projects, including road construction and rehabilitation across urban and rural communities.
According to a compendium of achievements unveiled by the state government in September 2026, the administration recorded more than 1,521 kilometres of constructed and reconstructed roads, over 7,000 classrooms and 260 Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres. Other highlighted projects include Enugu Air and the New Enugu Smart City.
In the education sector, the administration has prioritised the development and upgrading of school infrastructure, with the aim of improving learning environments and expanding access to quality education.
The government has also invested in healthcare infrastructure, including the development of the Enugu International Hospital and improvements to primary healthcare facilities across the state. These initiatives are intended to strengthen healthcare delivery and reduce the burden on residents seeking medical services.
In transportation and aviation, Enugu Air represents another major initiative under the administration’s development agenda, while road projects are expected to improve connectivity, facilitate commerce and open up communities to economic opportunities.
The state government has also pursued urban renewal, investment promotion and the revival of previously underutilised public assets as part of its broader ambition to expand the state’s economy and attract businesses.
For Onaga, these interventions provide a basis for supporting continuity, particularly as the state approaches another governorship election.
He believes that allowing Mbah to serve a second term would provide an opportunity for the administration to consolidate its policies, complete ongoing projects and sustain the development drive across the state.
