Nigerian billionaire and philanthropist, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has announced that he will fulfill his pledge of rewarding the Super Eagles with $500,000 despite the team’s defeat to Morocco in the semi-final of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Rabiu made the announcement in an emotional message praising the players for their courage, determination, and fighting spirit throughout the tournament. He commended the team for giving their all on the pitch and for making Nigerians proud, despite falling short of reaching the final.

“You fought with your hearts, gave your all, and showed true courage and determination on the pitch,” Rabiu said. “Though it wasn’t meant to be this time, you have made every Nigerian proud.”

The Super Eagles were eliminated by hosts Morocco after a dramatic 4–2 penalty shootout loss following a tense encounter on Wednesday, January 14. Despite the setback, Rabiu stressed that the team’s unity, passion, and commitment were worthy of celebration.

As a token of appreciation for their efforts and remarkable journey in the competition, Rabiu confirmed he would still go ahead with the $500,000 reward, noting that it was in recognition of their hard work, dedication, and the joy they brought to the nation.

The Super Eagles will now shift focus to the third-place match, where they are set to face Egypt.

Rabiu urged the players to keep their heads high, expressing confidence that the experience and lessons from the tournament would inspire greater success in the future, while reaffirming that Nigeria remains proud of the team.
