Stakeholders from Abia North under the aegis of the Alliance for Good Governance have declared their support for the re-election of Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, in the 2027 governorship election.
The stakeholders made their position known on Saturday, September 26, 2026, during the second chapter meeting of the group held at the Isieke Civic Centre, Ugwueke, in Bende Local Government Area of the state.
The meeting, which followed the group’s inaugural gathering in Abiriba, was attended by prominent sons and daughters of Abia North, including traditional rulers, political stakeholders, business leaders and professionals.
Presenting the communique issued at the end of the meeting, the Secretary and Spokesperson of the Alliance, Prof. Mkpa Agu Mkpa, said the gathering was aimed at consolidating the resolutions reached at the Abiriba meeting and advocating the sustenance of what the group described as good governance in Abia State.
Mkpa said members of the Alliance agreed that the Otti administration had demonstrated a model of governance they wanted future administrations to sustain beyond 2031.
According to him, the stakeholders also resolved to work towards Otti’s re-election in 2027.
He said the group would embark on voter education, particularly at the grassroots, while encouraging youths to resist electoral inducement and participate actively in the election.
“We resolved to embark on massive voters education, particularly at the grassroots and among the less literate. We also agreed to mobilise our youths not to succumb to pressure or inducement from other parties and not to sell their votes,” Mkpa said.
The former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Dr Uche Ogah, said members of the Alliance had begun developing grassroots structures to support the governor’s re-election bid.
Ogah said the structures would be used to engage voters and explain what he described as the achievements of the present administration.
“Almost everyone here has a political structure. These structures will go to the grassroots to enlighten our people at the lowest level,” he said.
Also speaking, the host of the meeting, Sir Johnson Chukwu, said the Alliance was established to provide a platform for opinion leaders to advocate for the institutionalisation of what he described as good governance in Abia State.
Chukwu cited developments in road infrastructure, education and healthcare as areas where he said the administration had recorded progress.
Renowned banker and former Group Managing Director of FBN Holdings, Elder Urum Kalu Eke, who worked with Otti during their years in the banking industry, also expressed support for the governor’s administration.
Eke said Otti had demonstrated at the state level some of the principles associated with effective management in the private sector.
The initiator and convener of the Alliance, Chief Ebueme Ezikpe, maintained that the group was not a political party and said its members were not government contractors.
He said the Alliance was focused on sustaining what members regarded as positive developments under the Otti administration.
Goodwill messages were delivered by Chief Ray Nkemdirim, Chief James Ochunkwo, Engr. Stephen Ndukwe, Mazi Victor Okoronkwo, Barr. John Ajuga, Prince U. D. Onuoha, Dr. Ukwu Rocks, Chief Ogbusuo Otah, Chief Inah Obasi, Chief Ananso Okriko and Okwodu Egwuruonu Obasi.
The meeting was also attended by members of the Ugwueke Council of Traditional Rulers and other Abia North stakeholders, including some who travelled into the country for the engagement.
