A disagreement over the use of a shared compound space in Lugbe, Abuja, has escalated into a violent incident, leaving a woman with serious injuries and her neighbour in custody.

The FCT Police Command identified the suspect as Gift Amos, a resident of the community, who allegedly poured boiling water on her neighbour, Mrs Beauty Monday, during an argument on September 4, 2026.

According to the police, the dispute began after Monday moved Amos’s pot of boiling water from a stove to the portion of the compound allocated to her.

The action reportedly angered Amos, who allegedly picked up the pot and poured its contents on Monday’s back.

The incident was reported at the Lugbe Police Division on September 7, after which police commenced an investigation.

FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said the victim is currently receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained in the incident.

Following the investigation, Amos was arraigned before a court and remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre pending further proceedings. The case has been adjourned until September 16, 2026.

The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of allowing disputes over shared residential spaces to escalate into physical violence.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged residents to exercise restraint and resolve disagreements through lawful and peaceful channels rather than resorting to self-help or violence.
