The Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) Enforcement Team on Tuesday carried out a compliance exercise in Enugwu-Ukwu, sealing an unauthorised gas plant operating without the required approval and demolishing an illegal structure erected directly beneath high-tension electricity power lines.
According to the agency, both structures posed serious safety threats and were in clear violation of planning and development regulations.
ACTDA said the enforcement action forms part of its ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with approved building standards, prevent avoidable disasters, and promote orderly physical development within the Awka Capital Territory.
The authority also urged residents, property developers, and business owners to obtain the necessary approvals before embarking on construction projects or establishing businesses.
It warned that illegal developments, particularly those located beneath high-tension power lines or involving hazardous facilities such as gas plants, pose grave risks to lives and property.
ACTDA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining enforcement operations across the capital territory to ensure a safer, cleaner, and properly planned environment for all residents.
