ADC Crisis Deepens as Amaechi Rejects Primary Election Results

Former Minister of Transportation and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the outcome of the party’s presidential primaries, describing the announced results as “concocted” and lacking credibility.

In a strongly worded statement issued after the primaries, Amaechi alleged that widespread voter disenfranchisement marred the exercise across most parts of the country, claiming that nearly 80 percent of party members were denied the opportunity to vote.

The former Rivers State governor said he had earlier made it clear that he would only accept the outcome of the primaries if the process was free, fair, and transparent, insisting that the conduct of the election fell far below democratic standards.

“I unequivocally reject the concocted results being announced,” Amaechi declared, accusing the party leadership of undermining the democratic values the ADC claims to represent.

According to him, the ADC was founded to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative capable of rescuing the country from “impunity and gross mismanagement,” adding that the alleged irregularities witnessed during the primaries contradicted that vision.

Amaechi further accused the party of engaging in the same practices it often criticizes the ruling All Progressives Congress and Independent National Electoral Commission for, including vote buying, rigging, and manipulation of election results.

“There’s no way that about eighty percent of members of the party were not allowed to vote, and you expect me to accept such results. Then what makes us different from the others?” he queried.

The development is expected to deepen tensions within the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections, as party stakeholders and supporters await the leadership’s response to the allegations.
