The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has unveiled its governorship and deputy governorship candidates for 28 states ahead of the 2027 general elections, positioning the party for a major expansion of its political presence across the country.
The list, announced on Friday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, features several prominent political figures, including former Kaduna State PDP governorship candidate Isa Mohammed Ashiru, former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, former Delta State governorship candidate Great Ogboru and former Lagos State Labour Party candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.
The unveiling signals the ADC’s intention to contest strongly in several states as the party seeks to present itself as an alternative to the major political parties ahead of the 2027 elections.
In Kaduna, the party has picked Ashiru as its governorship candidate, while Malami will fly the party’s flag in Kebbi. Rhodes-Vivour is set to contest in Lagos, while Ogboru will return to the Delta governorship race under the ADC platform.
Other notable names on the list include Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita in Katsina, Senator Halliru Dauda Jika in Bauchi and Modibbo Hammantukur Ribadu in Adamawa.
Abdullahi said the candidates would carry the party’s message of providing credible leadership and an alternative political platform to Nigerians.
“These men and women will carry the ADC banner and our commitment to offer Nigerians credible leadership and a real alternative,” he said.
The party listed candidates across 28 states, with governorship tickets also unveiled in Abia, Akwa Ibom, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Ebonyi, Enugu, Gombe, Jigawa, Kano, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, Ogun, Oyo, Plateau, Rivers, Sokoto, Taraba, Yobe and Zamfara.
The ADC said governorship campaigns are scheduled to commence on September 9, 2026, setting the stage for increased political activity as parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections.
