A fresh confrontation has erupted in Nigeria’s Senate following a stern warning from Senate President Godswill Akpabio to Senator Adams Oshiomhole over what he described as disruptive conduct during plenary.
The tension arose as lawmakers debated newly introduced rules on Senate leadership, reportedly aimed at reshaping eligibility for the Senate presidency ahead of the 2027 political cycle. The proposed changes are believed to directly affect several high-profile politicians, including Oshiomhole and Hope Uzodimma.
During the heated session, Oshiomhole openly protested the new provisions, arguing that they were targeted and undemocratic. His objections, however, were met with a firm response from Akpabio, who cautioned against further disruptions.
“Senator Oshiomhole, for the last time, if you become unruly in the Senate, we will use the same rules to remove you from the Senate,” Akpabio declared, drawing a sharp line on discipline within the chamber.
