Former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, has declared that he could be arrested for speaking what he described as the truth about the current state of Nigeria.
Al-Mustapha made the remarks on Saturday while speaking at the third memorial conference held in honour of the late General Hassan Usman Katsina in Kaduna State.
He lamented the worsening condition of both Northern Nigeria and the country as a whole, accusing northern political leaders of abandoning the vision and values of the region’s founding fathers.
According to him, the realities facing ordinary Nigerians are evident to everyone, regardless of social status.
“From every child on the street to the elites, we all know that the state of Nigeria is in a sorry state. The state of the North is totally hopeless. Speaking the truth about the situation is meant for patriots,” he said.
Al-Mustapha also criticised the poor attendance of northern governors at the conference, noting that the event’s theme, “From Sacrifice to Strategy,” should have compelled all of them to participate.
“They don’t have the thinking, they don’t have the sacrifice, and they also don’t have the strategy for the country,” he stated.
He further accused political officeholders of lacking a clear understanding of leadership, warning that Nigeria’s governance system had deteriorated significantly.
Addressing the representative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the event, Al-Mustapha said, “The system is rotten; those who are in leadership positions don’t even understand what leadership is all about.”
He concluded by saying he was prepared to face any consequences that might arise from speaking openly about the country’s challenges, insisting that telling the truth remained a patriotic duty.
