Fresh allegations have emerged against the Chairman of Aguata Local Government Area, Chibueze Offorbuike, with claims ranging from financial mismanagement to the alleged abuse of young women taken abroad under empowerment schemes.
In a statement circulating online, Comrade Emeka Ojiofor of Aguata South Comrades accused the council leadership of overseeing large inflows of public funds without commensurate development on the ground. According to the claims, Aguata LGA reportedly receives monthly allocations of up to ₦500 million, alongside internally generated revenue estimated at about ₦200 million.
Ojiofor alleged that despite these figures, many infrastructure projects cited by the administration—such as rural road repairs, culverts, and market developments—do not reflect the scale of funding. He further claimed that questions about expenditure have been met with bureaucratic bottlenecks, making independent verification difficult.
The statement also raised concerns over property acquisitions allegedly linked to the chairman, with promises that documents relating to land deals and ownership records would soon be made public.
More serious allegations involve reports from families who claim their daughters were taken abroad under the guise of empowerment or exposure trips to countries including South Africa and the United Arab Emirates. According to Ojiofor, some of these individuals allegedly returned with psychological trauma, raising concerns about the true nature of the trips. These claims, however, remain unverified at the time of reporting.
The controversy comes amid broader political discussions within the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), with suggestions that the chairman may be positioning for a seat in the House of Representatives.
Meanwhile, Chukwuma Soludo, Governor of Anambra State, has consistently emphasized his administration’s stance against corruption and “transactional politics,” advocating instead for transparent and development-focused governance.
