Ambassadorial Nominee Stumbles as He Fails to Recall Ekiti Senators at Senate Screening

Breaking

During a Senate screening on December 10, 2025, Emmanuel Adeyemi, a career diplomat and one of 65 ambassadorial nominees, faced intense questioning after failing to name all three senators representing his home state of Ekiti.

Adeyemi, who currently serves as Acting Director in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and holds a PhD in International Relations from France, received praise for his extensive diplomatic experience, including postings in Addis Ababa and Hong Kong. However, lawmakers sharply criticized him for not being able to recall the full list of Ekiti senators.

While he correctly identified Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central) and Yemi Adaramodu (APC, Ekiti South), he stumbled on the third, Senator Cyril Fasuyi (APC, Ekiti North), drawing concern from members of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Adeyemi’s performance highlights the growing expectation for ambassadorial nominees to demonstrate both professional competence and thorough familiarity with their political constituencies.
