The Anambra State Police Command has recorded a series of operational breakthroughs, including the rescue of a kidnap victim, the arrest of seven suspected criminals and the recovery of a stolen tricycle.
The Command disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, September 17, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu.
According to the statement, operatives of the Anambra IGP’s Violent Crime Response Unit, acting on credible intelligence, arrested two suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate, identified as Victor Onwuka, alias “Bugatti,” and 30-year-old Madukaife Chidiebere Kenechukwu.
The suspects were arrested in the early hours of August 16, 2026, at Akpukpokelemu Village, Nimo, in Njikoka Local Government Area of the state.
Police alleged that the suspects were involved in the kidnapping of a victim who was held captive for three days at a criminal hideout. During the victim’s captivity, the kidnappers allegedly withdrew ₦7 million from his bank accounts and escaped with his Toyota Highlander SUV.
The Police said the suspects confessed to their alleged involvement during interrogation and were subsequently identified by the victim. They are also reportedly providing information that could assist investigators in identifying and arresting other members of the syndicate still at large.
In another operation conducted on September 15, 2026, operatives arrested five suspects allegedly linked to an armed robbery syndicate involved in the snatching of a TVS tricycle in Asaba, Delta State, in April.
The operation reportedly began with the arrest of 38-year-old Nwakpa Friday and the recovery of the stolen tricycle, bearing registration number ASB595VD, at Old Road, Nkpor.
Four other suspects were subsequently arrested. They were identified as Sylvester Nteshi, 53; Nwuzor Livinus, 35; Mgbom Uche, 27; and Chiweuba Chukwudi, 42.
The Police said the suspects and recovered tricycle remain in custody as investigations continue to determine the individual roles allegedly played by the suspects and apprehend other members of the syndicate.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, commended the operatives for what he described as professionalism, intelligence-led policing and prompt response.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustained intelligence-led operations, the deployment of technology and coordinated efforts to tackle kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism and other violent crimes across Anambra State.
