Vice-President Professor Yemi Osinbajo has said All Progressives Congress (APC) is not a Muslim party and that President Muhammadu Buhari has no intention of Islamising Nigeria.Professor Osinbajo stated this while addressing mammoth crowd that gathered at the Olusegun Obasanjo Stadium Kaltungo, during the flag-off ceremony of the governorship campaign of Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya of the party in Gombe State. Gombe South senatorial district, where Kaltungo is located, is the stronghold of PDP and a multi-cultural and multi religious community.
The Vice-President said that APC is a party for everybody, therefore, people should not be deceived that it has an Islamic agenda.According to him, he is not only a Christian, but a pastor who has worked very well with President Muhammadu Buhari whom he described as a very honest and sincere person.
While calling on the people to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari and Inuwa Yahaya as the state Governor, Osinbajo said a vote for APC at all levels is a vote that would take the nation to the next level if the party wins.Also speaking, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha said if APC were a Muslim party, he would not have been part of the Government and holding a very sensitive position. He named many other Christians holding positions in the Government to include Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi; Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachukwu; CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele; CBN Deputy Governor, Edward Adamu who is also an indigene of Kaltungo.
The Gombe State APC Governorship candidate, Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, said the people of Gombe State and especially Gombe South have suffered greatly in the hands of PDP, which was the reason why they have rejected the PDP. “That is why they have come out in their numbers to show their loyalty and support for APC,” Inuwa stated.APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole was represented at the gathering by the Deputy National Chairman, Northeast zone, Mustapha Salisu.
Other APC stalwarts who graced the occasion were the Governors of Adamawa and Bauchi, Senator Jibrila Bindow and Mohammed Abubakar, former PDP National Chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff, and Senator Ali Ndume, all the nine governorship contestants during the party’s primaries among many others.In his remark, the Minister for Environment, Alhaji Sulaiman Hassan assured President Muhammadu Buhari that Gombe would overwhelmly support and vote for the APC in the 2019 general election.
“I am assuring Mr. President that APC will sweep all the positions at all levels through fair and credible election.“The crowd you have seen is the true reflection of what will be obtainable at the general election. “Gombe is now home for APC because we have seen, felt and touched the developmental projects and achievements recorded by the present government, therefore, we are all going to vote for APC.”
