The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, has predicted that the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah will give the All Progressives Congress (APC) a strong boost in the 2027 general elections.
Udeh, who spoke during an interview on TVC News’ Beyond the Headlines, said voters in Enugu State were likely to consider the performance of individual candidates and their governments rather than party affiliation alone.
According to him, the voting pattern in the 2023 elections showed that “it’s not about party. It’s about the individuals fielded by the party.”
He cited what he described as Mbah’s achievements since assuming office in 2023, including road infrastructure, transportation programmes and the establishment of Enugu Air, which he said had commenced regional flights.
Udeh said the governor’s performance had earned him goodwill among the people, adding that his movement to the APC would extend that goodwill to the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Now that we are in APC, the people will support APC as a party, not just because it’s a party but because the governor has done very well and deserves a second term,” he said.
The minister also linked the APC’s prospects to the performance of the Tinubu administration, noting that the President’s policies and interventions would form part of the issues presented to voters ahead of the elections.
He reaffirmed his support for Tinubu’s bid for a second term, saying, “At the moment, we have a president that has done a first term and is eligible for a second term, and is the candidate of our party.”
Udeh, who is also a member of the 2027 APC Presidential Campaign Council, said political leaders in the South-East were engaging with stakeholders and educating voters on the need to make decisions that would protect the region’s interests in the next political dispensation.
He maintained that producing a president required consideration of Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, while expressing confidence in the political realignment taking place ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said South-East political leaders were working to secure commitments from the Federal Government that would advance the interests of the region and strengthen its political future.
