The enduring discussion on the appointment that was given to Senator Ifeanyi Godwin Araraume (SIGA) has exposed how far people could harm the reputation of others with their hypocrisy and cynicism.
The arguments by supposed friends, associates and supporters of the fair-complexioned businessman cum politician have only betrayed him by their unfair disguised ridicule of the appointee and his appointment, when the reverse should have been the case, under normal circumstances.
The Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary defines “hypocrisy” as: “behaviour in which somebody pretends to have moral standards or opinions that they do not actually have.”
The same dictionary defines “hypocrite” as: “a person who pretends to have moral standards or opinions, which do not actually have”!
On the other hand, the same dictionary defines “cynic” as: “a person who believes that people only do things to help themselves, rather than for good or sincere reasons.” Cynicism is the act of believing that people only do things to help themselves, rather than for good or sincere reasons”! Talk about selfishness!
One trouble with Imo State at this point in its history is the increasing acts of hypocrisy and cynicism by increasing number of hypocrites and cynics. Many cut their noses to spite their faces, all in the name of playing bad politics!
For example, hypocrisy and cynicism is the disregard and undermine, by some disgruntled greedy and avaricious people, of the glorious emergence of His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma as the governor of Imo State, but the same people are struggling and sweating to identify, associate and celebrate the mere ordinary common appointment of Senator Ifeanyi Godwin Araraume (SIGA) into the Board of a non-existent limited liability company!
The incurable enemies of truth and progress have made profuse efforts to show that Araraume’s appointment was for him and themselves alone, rather than for the good of Imo State and Imo people to whom the appointment was allocated. That’s hardcore evidence of hypocrisy and cynicism at work. It’s unfortunate and too bad!
Anyhow, it’s always more glorious to be elected than to be appointed. Both of election and appointment are good for the running and working of the government, but the former is better than the latter.
Agreed, as the legendary South African reggae crooner, Lucky Dube, would preach: “Blessed is the hand that giveth and the hand that taketh”! It’s good to give. It’s good to take or receive, but..!
But the Good Book admonishes that it’s more glorious to give than to take. And philosophically speaking, the hand that gives is always above the hand that takes! That’s an incontrovertible fact!
While Governor Hope Uzodimma currently functions in an executive position in his capacity as the elected governor of Imo State, but by his recently announced appointment, that’s yet to be accorded legislative impetus, SIGA operates as a mere ordinary appointee. While Governor Uzodimma gives, SIGA takes or receives!
If not for crass hypocrisy of hypocrites, and cynicism of cynics, why would anybody be sweating profusely to celebrate an appointee, when he/she finds it difficult to acknowledge and celebrate an elected governor and the appointer? Do things work in that way?
If not for the overall good of Imo State and Imo people, what really else is there to celebrate about the appointment of SIGA to be the Chairman of a yet to be incorporated limited liability company? Does the appointment leverage SIGA’s dwindling political fortunes any bit? Will Araraume have executive power and authority in NNPC like Governor Uzodimma has in Imo State and Nigeria?
It’s pertinent to remind that the last time Araraume won an INEC conducted election was in 2003, with which he served out his second tenure.
At the Imo North Senatorial election by-election that was conducted by INEC on Saturday, December 5, 2020, Araraume was severely beaten by Senator Frank Ibezim, who had the strong backing of Governor Hope Uzodimma!
The ex-Senator has been suffering from this established “near success syndrome” which makes him always see the promised land of elective politics but which he never entering it since the past bear 20 years, following his return from the Senate, after his so-so representation of Okigwe Zone and Imo State.
We recall that this isn’t the first time Araraume will be getting a federal appointment. In 2016, he was aided by the then governor to get appointed into the Board of the National Communications Commission (NCC). Incidentally, he didn’t excel until his tenure expired. Now, once again, he has been assisted by Governor Uzodimma to secure another federal appointment. Will he excel?
The only difference between the NCC appointment in 2016, and the NNPC Limited appointment in 2021 is that while at NCC, Araraume was a floor member, but in the unregistered NNPC Limited, he’s only the non-executive Chairman of the Board. Simply put, appointment is appointment and election is election!
It’s very significant that just few days after President Muhammadu Buhari’s very successful visit to Imo State, where he promised to support Imo State and Southeast extensively, in accordance with the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution, SIGA was nominated by Mr. President for a federal appointment into the upcoming National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited!
It must be reminded that the appointment is still work in progress, as it’ll pass through the legislature for necessary legislative imprimatur. Hence, anything can still happen either way! It’s not yet uhuru!
There’s no gainsaying that the appointment is an allocation to Imo State into a Board where some other States are represented. Is it sensible and reasonable, therefore, to condemn the governor of Imo State and simultaneously be commending an emissary of Imo State that’s appointed into a national venture?
Otherwise, why didn’t Araraume get the appointment before Governor Uzodimma successfully invited and successfully hosted the president to the State? How then did the appointment reflect Araraume’s so-called capacity? Who’s Araraume competing with? What’s he contesting for? And who’s winning?
Can Araraume rightfully claim to be an island, running an isolated race in the name of Imo State, without the cooperation of the State governor and people of Imo State? Can Araraume survive in isolation? Is NNPC a private business, where the Chairman can just be appointed from anywhere? Of course, not!
All appointments at the federal levels are localized in the respective States of the federation. Hence, by virtue of Senator Araraume’s appointment into the Board of the newly established NNPC Limited, he’s an appointee of Governor Hope Uzodimma’s by extension and extrapolation!
It’s unfortunate that some people have made frivolities there primary assignment and superfluities as their major preoccupation as far as Governor Uzodimma’s wonderful administration is concerned. What do such people derive from continually twisting the truth and facts of every matter to undermine the glory of the State?
It’s quite ironical that while detractors are busy suffering to discredit the Governor Uzodimma administration, they’re directly and indirectly steadily watering down and diminishing the status of SIGA!
Why celebrate a mere Board appointment allocated to the State as if it were a governorship election victory with executive power and authority? Why rejoice over Araraume’s appointment as if it were his first ever appointment? How did he fare in his previous appointments?
We’ve been told that the celebration is a direct denigration and disdain on the person His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma. That’s balderdash! It’s gibberish! There’s no reason or basis for that!
It’s an ironical dead-on-arrival vamvum bubuyaya attacks on SIGA’s personality and on the image of Imo State. Who’ll tell his online social media fans club and supporters that?
Honestly, leaders of Imo State must know how they drag the name of the State in mud in the name of politics of hatred, malice, rancour and acrimony. Governor Uzodimma is doing very well. He has stabilized the State. Many things are now working in Imo. The governor is reinventing joy and happiness among Ndimo. That accounts for the palpable calm, unity, peace and progress of the State.
It’s unwise of anybody to continue to dwell in the negative nightmare of something untoward happening to the current government, while daily Governor Uzodimma goes on adding new feathers of success in his cap. When Jesus says yes, nobody can say no! Who can battle with the Lord?
Senator Araraume shouldn’t be deceived to keep bothering himself with scheming against Governor Uzodimma. He needs to call a serious stakeholders meeting to properly guide his songs of praise and worship choir and call them to order. Evidently and unarguably, they’re doing him more harm than harm. The hole that they’re digging hasn’t any rabbit in it. As Araraume swims, his back is glaring showing to interested onlookers, observers and pundits!
Yet, as some schools of thought have suggested, the appointment given to Araraume is his consolatory retirement benefit from active politics and politicking. In other words, he has been retired effectively from participation in elective politics and adequately compensated. Though, of no interest to us, there seems to be much sense in that.
On a final note, the people of Imo State are most grateful to President Buhari for promptly activating his promise to begin to take more interest in Imo State, which the president has proved by offering this appointment to Senator Araraume on behalf of Imo State and Imo people.
The roles of His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma in all of the rapid benefits Imo State and Imo people are receiving in the recent times from President Buhari can only be commended and applauded by well-meaning Imolites, Nigerians, and members of the global community. Nothing more, nothing less! To God be the glory!
By God’s grace, Imo State must be rehabilitated, reconstructed and recovered!!
