In the once peaceful towns of Mgbakwu, Isuanaocha, Urum, and Achalla in Awka North LGA of Anambra State, terror now walks freely in broad daylight, draped in the cloak of unknown gunmen. The streets that once echoed with the laughter of children and the rhythmic chants of farmers now lie eerily silent, haunted by the sound of gunshots and the cries of mourning families.
A chilling wave of violence has overtaken these communities, turning them into a war zone where life has lost its sacredness. Farmers no longer tend to their crops. The fertile lands of Mgbakwu now lie abandoned—fields once brimming with hope and harvest are now overtaken by fear and famine. Families go hungry. Children no longer go to school. Their dreams, like the community’s peace, are being buried alongside the bodies of slain villagers.
The brutality is beyond comprehension. Victims are not only killed—they are mocked in death. Phones of the murdered are stolen and used to send taunts into WhatsApp groups where their loved ones still mourn. These heinous acts are not only crimes—they are calculated psychological attacks meant to dismantle the very soul of the community.
Gunmen roam the streets like kings. No one dares to challenge them. Indigenes live as prisoners in their own homes. Mgbakwu, Isuanaocha, Urum, and Achalla are now shadows of themselves—held hostage by fear, abandoned by security, and forgotten by leadership.
Governor Charles Soludo must hear this cry. A state of emergency must be declared in Awka North before more lives are lost, more dreams shattered, and an entire generation buried in the ruins of violence. The people of Awka North deserve protection. They deserve peace. And most of all, they deserve to live.
This is not just an appeal—it is a desperate cry for intervention before Awka North becomes nothing but a memory written in blood.
