Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has revealed details about his failed attempt to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that efforts to reconcile and explore political options outside his current platform did not yield the desired outcome.
The governor disclosed that discussions were held at both national and state levels to consider possible political alignments, including a potential move to the APC. However, he said the outcome of those engagements made it clear that he and his allies were not welcome in the ruling party.
“We have found ourselves in a very serious situation. I have done everything possible to ensure reconciliation, but it has not worked,” Bala said.
According to him, committees were established to examine different political options as tensions within his current party deepened.
“We set up committees at both the national and state levels to explore all options, including even the APC, but sadly, we discovered that we are not wanted there,” he added.
The Bauchi governor noted that attention has now shifted to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which he described as a welcoming platform for him and his political associates.
“As of now, ADC appears to be a very welcoming and acceptable platform. However, we have not concluded discussions. We are engaging stakeholders to ensure we do not make mistakes,” he explained.
Bala further stated that while talks with the party are ongoing, the ADC currently stands as the most likely destination should he eventually decide to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“We are amenable to joining the ADC if certain things and conditions are concluded. As of now, they are our preferred destination,” he said.
