In a major political shake-up ahead of the 2025 governorship election in Anambra State, prominent APGA stalwart and son of Nigeria’s First Republic Senate President, Rt. Hon. Prince Dr. A. A. Nwafor Orizu, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Hon. Prince Nnamsom Nwafor Orizu, widely known as the “Political Tiligada” of APGA, announced his departure from the party in a strongly worded letter addressed to the APGA Chairman of Otolo Ward 1, Nnewi.

In the letter, Prince Orizu cited “deep-seated concerns over the growing injustices, maladministration, and lack of internal democracy” within APGA, stating that these issues have “regrettably taken root” in the party and contradict the founding ideals that once inspired mass support for the party.

His resignation is seen as a significant blow to APGA and Governor Charles Soludo’s rumored bid for re-election in the November 8th governorship poll.

Prince Orizu’s political influence runs deep. He has been instrumental in delivering APGA victories across multiple elections and has held several key appointments under both former Governors Peter Obi and Willie Obiano. These include Chairman of the Committee on Procurement, Distribution, Pricing and Regulation of Petroleum Products and later Senior Special Assistant on Youth Entrepreneurship, Mobilization, and Strategy.

In 2021, he played a pivotal role in endorsing Prof. Soludo’s candidacy under the platform of the Association of Political Appointees who served under ex-Governor Obiano.

He currently serves as the Anambra South Zonal Coordinator of Soludo Ambassadors and as Special Adviser to the Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government. Outside politics, he chairs the Anambra State Council of the National Union of Market Traders Employers of Nigeria an appointment by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment.

Though he has not officially declared his next political move, insider sources suggest that Prince Orizu may be heading to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to align with the progressives in a strategic effort to block Governor Soludo’s re-election.
