In a dramatic political move, renowned media mogul and politician, Chief Dele Momodu, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s alleged takeover by antidemocratic forces as his primary reason.
In a statement made available to the press, Chief Momodu expressed deep disappointment over the direction the PDP has taken in recent times. He described the current state of the party as a “carcass” that has been hijacked in broad daylight by undemocratic elements, both internal and external.
“My reason is simple and straightforward,” he wrote. “Our party has been unarguably hijacked by antidemocratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight. It is therefore honorable to abandon the carcass of the party to them while majority of us earnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress (ADC).”
Chief Momodu, who has been an influential voice within the PDP, stated that his decision is immediate and irrevocable. He also used the opportunity to thank those who supported him throughout his journey in the party.
“I will forever treasure the kind support you gave me at all times. Thank you, Sir,” he concluded.
The defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is seen as a major boost to the emerging coalition party as it continues to attract high-profile political figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
