A Nigerian Air Force (NAF) helicopter on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, reportedly made an emergency landing in Makurdi, Benue State, following a suspected technical fault.
The incident occurred around Utur Tse-Igboji in Bar Council Ward, along the Welfare Quarters–Mopol 13 Ring Road area of the state capital.
According to a resident, Stephen Ikpam, who reported from the scene, the helicopter landed on farmland in the community after developing the technical problem.
Residents reportedly rushed to the scene to assist the officers on board. All the occupants were said to have survived the emergency landing without loss of life.
Ikpam described the incident as one that could have resulted in a major tragedy, expressing gratitude to God for sparing the lives of the officers.
“We thank God for sparing their lives. It would have been a double tragedy if the helicopter had crashed,” he said.
The resident also called for continued prayers for the safety of Nigerian security personnel carrying out their duties across the country.
The circumstances surrounding the technical fault and the exact number of personnel on board were not immediately disclosed.
