Tragedy struck late Tuesday night at Ugwu Onye Ama in Enugu State as a devastating road accident involving a truck and a passenger bus claimed the lives of more than 50 people.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred when a truck collided with a bus conveying passengers, triggering a fire outbreak. The situation escalated rapidly after the truck reportedly burst into flames, which quickly spread to nearby vehicles.
The resulting inferno caused a massive explosion, engulfing multiple vehicles and leaving victims trapped with little chance of escape. Passersby and residents who rushed to the scene in an attempt to rescue those affected were forced to retreat due to the intensity of the fire.
Emergency responders, including personnel of the fire service and the police, arrived at the scene in the early hours of Wednesday. Recovery efforts are currently ongoing, with officials seen evacuating charred bodies from the wreckage.
