In the early hours of Thursday, at about 6 AM, a police team led by a Chief Superintendent from the IGP Monitoring Unit of the Nigeria Police Force reportedly stormed the detention cell of activist and publisher Omoyele Sowore at the Force Intelligence Department in Abuja.

Eyewitness accounts allege that the officers, numbering nine and including eight heavily armed personnel, claimed they were taking Sowore to court. However, when Sowore demanded to see the charges against him and inform his lawyers, the officers allegedly manhandled him, resulting in a broken arm.

The activist was then reportedly transferred to another police facility without access to legal representation.
